Erin M. Riley’s “Darkness Lies Ahead” at Joshua Liner Gallery.
Opening tonight at Joshua Liner Gallery in New York City is Erin M. Riley’s “Darkness Lies Ahead,” a solo exhibition of brand new woven tapestries that are all over 8 feet wide. Erin uses tapestry to document “selfies” - a strikingly contemporary idea and theme compared to what tapestries usually bring to mind. Erin says that she is “fascinated by the way our generation [is] seeking to connect” and the way she presents this fascination in the form of handwoven tapestries is one of the greatest ideas out there, I think.
I’ve also been following Erin’s Instagram for a while and it’s equally fascinating to see her process and all the insane work that goes into creating just one of these tapestries.
